Candace Strother...strong on 2nd Amendment and tax relief

UPDATE: Ric James, in his usual logical prowess.... gives us the final word on this race. And it's right on target!!!
Common Sense among lots of rhetoric out there that just ain't so.

As most know, in the up and coming Party Canvass at Belmont Ridge Middle School, on March 6, 2010 (--from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.) there is a choice before the Committee.
Candace Strother is facing competition as a candidate for Chairman.
She's also come out as a strong advocate for the taxpayers of Loudoun County when she calls on the BOS to follow thru when they say fiscal conservative.

" Candace Strother of Ashburn, who is running for chairman of the Loudoun County Republican Committee, pointed to gains made by Republicans statewide last year in comments before the board at a budget hearing Wednesday. Gov. Robert F. McDonnell (R) swept all of Loudoun's 71 precincts, finishing with 61 percent of the vote in November. Republicans also swept all five Loudoun delegate races, defeating two Democratic incumbents.

"All of these Republican candidates ran on a platform of fiscal responsibility, lower taxes and limited government. The people of Loudoun agreed," Strother told the board. ---From the Washington Post

Many do not realize that Candace was a delegate for Ken Cuccennelli in the months before the Convention, or that she is a crack shot.

Give a look!!!

Frank Wolf's Birthday was HUGE and successful.

Just in from the bash. I was impressed with the sheer number of folks who came out on a Friday Night to wish the Congressman a belated Birthday. Seems the delay of the snow actually added to the numbers in attendance.
What was to be 400 folks actually swelled to 650 RSVPs by yesterday.
And over 500 of them made it!
After the speeches were all made -- we all sang Happy Birthday. That was one loud room, and due to the size of the room, we even spilled out into the lobby.

Congrats on a significant Campaign kickoff, Representative Wolf!!

Conservative Tim Graney Challenges Congressman Ron Paul

Conservative Tim Graney Challenges 20-Year Incumbent Congressman Ron Paul in Texas.

I never really understood Ron Paul, or the ideological dimwits that he spawned across the nation. They showed up everywhere. The last Convention of the Tenth District was stacked with them.(Thank you Mike McHugh, wherever you are) You know what we got from these misguided twits?
Kay Gunter, No-Show Howie Long and the illustrious JoAnne Chase as SCC. We were going to send one of their ilk to Minneapolis to cast a vote for Virginia's Tenth in the Presidential delegation... Guess who that vote was going to be for? That's right! But for some wrangling (all legal and allowed, before you start)in selection of those delegates, one of these morons may well have gone to that Convention and cast a vote for Ron Paul, and to hell with representing all of us back at home who were counting on them to do the right thing and ....represent us.
And as all the smoke cleared, only an extremely small contingent even stayed involved in local Committee work after all that. I can think of two from Loudoun who stuck around (and I thank them for the work they've done since then).

Finally, someone steps up to challenge the Texas Congresscritter in his own backyard. From all accounts, Tim is standing on all the parts of Ron Paul that I agree with, and equally upset with the parts of Ron Paul I cannot stomach. There's the whole isolationistic crap that I abhor. If we bury our head in the sand, will the problems and the conspiring against America really stop? Didn't think so.
There's that whole "Ron Paul started Tea Parties". That is bullshit. Tea Parties started life as the purest form of American expression of dissatisfaction. There are conservative Democrats at these things. There are millions of independent(self-identified)voters, and millions of republicans - from right of center to hardliners.
Each group is equally as important as the others....and my worst fear is that some fringe group overtakes the movement and destroys everything it could have been - and starts exploiting it for their own personal agenda, until they fracture it.

Tim is interviewed here

I don't know how much traction he'll get, but I wish him the best. He's certainly got his head wrapped around the game firmly. I know if he wins this one, we'll have an ally down Texas way.

Going medieval on AGW....

That's the Medieval Warming Period. The period lasting from 950 AD to just over 1300AD. The warm climate overlaps with a time of high solar activity called the Medieval Maximum.

During this period, Dr. Phil Jones(one of the leading lights of the Anthropogenic Global Warming believers) has for the first time admitted that the Medieval Warm Period could have been warmer than the present day. You remember Dr. Jones best from the day when Servers were cracked at the Climate Research Unit at the University of East Anglia. In fall-out over what those e-mails revealed, Dr. Jones has resigned recently. Hoodathunk covers the breaking news here. There are highlighted links to the full history on that blog, as well as links to Watt's excellent blog on these matters.

Photobucket

During the Little Ice Age(1275 AD till 1850 AD), which directly followed MWP, average global temperatures were 1-1.5 degree Celsius (2-3 degrees Fahrenheit) cooler than they are today. The cooler temperatures were caused by a combination of less solar activity and large volcanic eruptions. Cooling caused glaciers to advance and stunted tree growth. Livestock died, harvests failed, and humans suffered from famine and disease.
Proof of this period are offered mostly by way of Greenland and, conversely, Iceland. Naming of Greenland took place during MWP because the land was "green" upon it's discovery (something that always made me wonder why someone would name a block of ice "Greenland") and Iceland was named during the Little Ice Age, because it looked more like a barren ice wasteland than it's current "green" terrain that we recognise today. Another historical reference of the "Little Ice Age" is those huge blocks of ice in the Delaware in Washington's depicted crossing in the late 1700's.

As Hoodathunk asks, and I repeat here -- what industrial revolution -- belching fumes into the sky, and SUVs with their belching exhausts pipes caused the MWP? Why didn't the seas boil over, or the polar ice caps fall off? Fact is, there is no direct connection between global warming and human activity, and even in warmer times, the threatened apocolyptic end didn't occur.
As you read above, LOOSING temperature created much more havoc (At least one paper has been put in at the AGU Fall meeting that forcast a repeat of the Dalton Minimum---with the conclusion that the Sun is leaving its fifty to sixty year long grand maximum of the second half of the 20th century. The author had said previously that the Sun was more active in the second half of the 20th century than in the previous 8,000 years). This may signal a return to another period of diminished solar flare activity --resulting in global cooling...not warming. The proof has been with us for centuries, if we'd only have looked at the solar activity models.

The warming trends have much more to do with solar flare activity, something that isn't responsive to Cap and Trade punishment on the masses, or carbon-credit schemes.
These programs were designed to reign in money for special causes for a special few, and many lies were told to escort the ignorant masses to an understanding which would keep them passive about parting with their cash.

Look, I'm all for recycling materials. It's cheaper than mining for new material, and therefore makes all the sense in the world. I don't have a problem with abating plastic from our landfills. I don't have a problem harnessing wind, solar and other renewable energy sources, because quite frankly, we're going to need them in the immediate future. But I draw the line at government-imposed taxes or fines that are specifically targeted at the populance in order to fund other special interest groups at the expense of other more pressing initiatives.
And fostering lies and deliberate misinformation to do it.

Remember Dave Schmidt For 10th District Chairman.

Dave Schmidt For 10th District Chairman.

Republican delegates to the 10th District Convention in May, 2010, I would like you to meet one of the hardest working Republicans you weren't aware of. So many times we see folks who work when they have to, but who will eagerly step over others to get to the spotlight. But this is a man who's worked under the radar and behind the scenes, wishing no glory for himself, but only working for the image of the candidates he supports.

Meet Dave Schmidt. He has been elected to the Leesburg Town Council, not once, but twice... 2000-2004 and 2008

As you'll read down this page, Mr. Schmidt is generous with his money, and his time in pursuit of electing great Republicans to office. As an activist, myself..I know the amount of hours and the meetings, and the labor of love Mr.Schmidt commits a large portion of his life to. Just for fun, you can compare the amount of money that Dave has given the 10th District over the years to the one time contribution Howie Lind gave to run for office...and it's arguable that even that was not a Howie Lind personal check, but that some other entity paid it for him.

Dave says:
"As a proud life long Republican I have been active in every presidential campaign since I was six years old, after seeing Barry Goldwater speak in Cincinnati. I have volunteered for Republicans in state and local elections in Kentucky, Tennessee, Louisiana, Texas, and Virginia."

Professional Experience:
President & CEO, International Food Information Council -- also held the positions of Executive Vice President, and Vice President.
Frequent speaker on food safety and nutrition
Serves on the National Advisory Board for Risk Communications Research at the University of Maryland
Serves on the Steering Committee for America’s Heartland
Presidential Appointee in the President George H.W. Bush Administration, Schedule C/Director of Information and Legislative Affairs, USDA Food. Safety and Inspection Service
Elected Councilman for the Town of Leesburg, 2000-2004 and 2008

Political Experience:
Heritage Precinct Captain, McDonnell, Bolling, Cuccinelli, McCain/Palin (2008), Senator George Allen and Congressman Frank Wolf
Has given strong financial support – 10th District Events - Oktoberfest and Jefferson Dinner.
Elected At-Large Delegate from Virginia to the Republican National Convention in Minneapolis, 2008, and elected Alternate Delegate in 2004
Delegate to 10th District Congressional and Virginia State Conventions
Contributor to McCain for President, RNC, RPV, LCRC, Frank Wolf for Congress, Bush for President, Joe May For Delegate and a regular contributor to numerous Republican Candidates and Organizations
Leesburg Coordinator, George W. Bush for President (2000 primary)
Member of the Republican National Committee since 1980, Loudoun County Republican Committee
National Delegate Nominee/Phone Bank Chairman, Dallas County Bush for President (1988 primary and general election)
Founder & President, Students for Reagan, Vanderbilt University(1979-80)
------------------------
It should be crystal clear which one of these gentlemen can form the Tenth into an enviable entity, worthy of a similar moniker that the "Fighting Ninth" enjoys today.
Vote Dave Schmidt, and let's make that a goal for the coming year under his excellent leadership.

UPDATE: Endorsements have started coming out for Dave's opponent.
They include these doozies:
JoAnn Chase, who has bad-mouthed the #1 Unit Chair of Virginia.
Pat McSweeney, former Chairmanof RPV, who went so far in Loudoun as to actually raise money and funnel it to independen candidates instead of the republican candidates.
Mike McHugh, Warren County- The #1 instigator and loudmouth at the 10th District Convention of 2006. Kinda like Dimitri Kesari on crack...
David Ray, Fairfax County- who was on hand to coordinate the fiasco at the LCRC meeting that detained members for an additional hour and a half- over nothing.
John Grigsby- all around off-balance, and part of the lame attempt to influence a committee outcome with Ray and Volpe.
Willie Deutsch, Vice President, Virginia College Republicans-

This reads like the who's who of Jeff Frederick supporters...and will probably revert the 10th District to that kind of rule. We should avoid this team in the driver's seat at all costs.

But WAIT!!!! There it is!!! In his latest e-mail. Lind dumps the creme-de-la-creme of endorsement from his surprise baggage!

Michael Farris, Chancellor, Patrick Henry College-- who once chartered two buses to Richmond, threw a convention in favor of an unelectable candidate and handed a Democrat Volvo Salesman the AG's office. Interviewed after the loss, he said "we won the battle, but we lost the war". No duh.

Jeff Frederick, Former Chairman, RPV --- there's the mint on top, folks. As expected.
This is all payback for the Frederick battle, after all.

Paul Protic, former Chair of the LCRC - who's quote closely matches Farris'...."We may lose, but at least we'll be pure".

With deadweights like this around our ankles-- how will we ever soar in upcoming elections? Fact is - with them at the helm, we won't.

Here I go again.

I had the whole driveway open before this last bout of snow. It's proving to be harder to move than the first batch....because I can't push this stuff. It has to be bucketed up and over the first removal.Add that it has blown into five and six feet drifts...and begun to crunch down into a solid mass.
The first 50 feet.
Photobucket
The other 1350 feet...
Photobucket
Saturday: Finally out to State road again. As I hear it, there was a large backhoe out there all of last night working the 6 foot drifts on the one trough. It's clear now. These are the remainder of pics. they are in order and move the reader down my lane to the State road, which is seen between the pines at the end of the driveway.

Been out to Leesburg for tractor fluid, deisel, additive and groceries. Had to evacuate the roof on the barn, lest we get two feet of glow-bull warming in the form of "snow showers".
Final tally for the 47" of Glow Bull warming:
2 front lockouts in the Dana 60 front axle, one high pressure bucket hose on the tractor, and a bill for a Skid loader cleaning what I couldn't after the hose burst. Amd it's only halfway thru February. The Almanac said something about 7 weather events this month. AAArrrrggghhhhh!

Wages were who will feed the horses for the next week.

Snow accumulation is at 18 inches

Out here in the country, with no vehicle and general heat of congested areas, we get whoppers. Being at the base of the Short Hills doesn't really help that, unless they sheild and push the storms off down the Potomac or South into Leesburg.

I've plowed the driveway twice, after each 8" snowfall span. It's supposed to make it easier on the equipment than trying to push all 18-24: at one time. It is now 0112 Hrs, and I'm tired. No more pushing tonight.

My friend, Hoodathunk, has a report on the total snowfall required to put us in the record books.

As of the 18" outside, I think we just passed the 100 year mark...and another 8" of the white stuff will put us into unchartered, never-been-there territory.

Saturday: Got up this AM, and discovered all my work last might was for nothing. All of it filled in with drifts from the wind. I did go out and extricate the Monk Mobile to assure a path for the power cable to the onboard generator, should we lose power.
Snow stopped for the evening, and I cleared a path wide enough to get to the tractor which is now lodged in a 5 foot snowdrift. All told, I think the actual finished total, devoid of drifts, was 32".

Sunday: Freed the tractor and swapped out the plow for a good old fashioned bucket attachment. The snow now has to go up and over the 32" sides. I have either shoveled or "bucketed" around 600 feet of driveway. That does not count the 300 feet of paths leading to the dog's room, the barn and the lower fields. I'm pooped, but I discovered I'm pretty fit for a 50 year old man.

Monday: I think I pushed somewhere around 700 feet today. I scraped my driveway down to stone, so it'll actually melt in the direct sunlight. I actually stepped out onto the State Road out there. Of course, it still had 4" of snow on it, packing down. So, I'll definitely need 4x4, and maybe toss those destructive studded tires on for added advantage..

Tuesday: Had the smow on the run out here, and driveway was clear right up until the 35 MPH winds–and 40 MPH gusts. It filled the driveway up at a low spot between my passes. Went out, got groceries last night in preparation… so I’ll just chill today and attack it tomorrow after the winds die off. State road has a particularly nasty trough in it anyway, and I guarantee that what is 40″ on top of that cut is easily 85″ inside the trough. We’ll need a little bit more than a tractor to move that.
If I can secure a skid loader -- I'll attempt it on Thursday.

Brown sworn in as US senator from Massachusetts

February 04, 2010 9:24 PM EST
"WASHINGTON (AP) — Republican Scott Brown took over the seat of the late Massachusetts Sen. Edward Kennedy on Thursday, vowing to be an independent voice in a bitterly divided Senate.

"I can't promise I will be right in every vote I make. ... I will do the very best job I can," Brown told reporters.

Brown was sworn-in by Vice President Joe Biden at a Capitol Hill ceremony a week earlier than he originally planned, and just in time to plunge into a partisan fight over President Barack Obama's choice of a union attorney for a top labor job.

Brown's arrival in the Senate ends the Democrats' supermajority and gives the GOP 41 votes they can use to block President Barack Obama's agenda.

At a news conference, Brown made an assertion about the last economic stimulus bill that most economists would dispute.

"The last stimulus bill didn't create one new job," Brown said in response to a question about a jobs bill pending in the Senate. He added that the stimulus may have retained some jobs.

Republicans have questioned the way the Obama administration has counted jobs created or saved with stimulus money. But most economists believe new jobs were created even though unemployment rates rose.

Depending on how Democrats set the Senate's calendar, Brown's first vote could be against the confirmation of Craig Becker, a lawyer for the Service Employees International Union, to a seat on the National Labor Relations Board, the federal panel that referees private sector labor-management disputes.
Brown said he hasn't decided on whether to support Becker".

That's the AP view on the situation. The Businessweek.com outlook is here...

Candace Speaks before the LCRC

First off, I have to insert an endorsement that so blatantly points out the challenges ahead, it demonstrates the exact kind of straight line we need to walk. There is zero room for missteps, mistakes, intraparty squabbles, or empty bantor about who is more conservative. This is a question about who can lead. And, more important in all of this was the evolving realization that: where Loudoun goes, so goes Virginia.
Joe Scalione gave such a great endorsement, I have to highlight the sections where he points out exactly what is at stake. Joe, many thanks for the pinpoints of a very ringing endorsement.

"All,
Yesterday I had the pleasure of attending the swearing in ceremony for the Honorable Thomas A. “Tag” Greason as the Delegate from the 32rd District. Those in attendance realized a satisfying conclusion to a long, hard fight to win this recent campaign, in addition to the sweep of the top three offices in Virginia.

Upon returning home from Richmond yesterday I read an article in the newspaper introducing the new leadership for the Loudoun County Democratic Committee (LCDC). I also read how we lost a very close race to fill Attorney General Cuccinelli’s vacant State Senate seat. It pointed out to me that we need to continue our efforts with vigor and not become complacent over the November victories won by our candidates with significant margin.

The new chairman for the LCDC is Mike Turner from Waterford, who ran unsuccessfully against Judy Feder in the Democratic 10th Congressional Primary. Mike Turner is also a retired US Air Force Colonel. I know he will bring structure and rigor to the LCDC in a similar way that Glen Caroline has done for the LCRC. We currently have the organizational edge and need continued strong leadership to build upon it. That is why I strongly endorse Candace Strother for the next LCRC Chairman.

My interactions with her give me confidence that she has the background, energy, and vision to continue our successful efforts for the next two years. Some of the highlights from Candace’s political resume are extensive government experience in Washington DC including the White House, the Executive Office of the President and the Cabinet Offices of Labor and Interior. Her responsibilities ranged from management and budgets to communications and congressional affairs. As Deputy Assistant Secretary of Labor at the Occupational Safety and Health Administration she directed agency strategic planning including regulatory priorities, international activities and training.
As the Interior Department Chief of Staff to the Solicitor she directed strategic planning, chaired the management advisory group and directed external relations with the Congress, media, executive branch and interest groups. While at the White House Office of Public Liaison, she led issue briefings for individuals and organizations to promote administration policies and prepared issue briefing memoranda for the President and his senior staff.

The LCRC needs this experience and professional leadership to continue our successful momentum. Please join me in supporting Candace Strother for our next LCRC Chairman.

Respectfully,
Joe Scalione
Broad Run District Chairman - Loudoun County Republican Committee

Seeing that, I am proud to reproduce Candace Strother's address from the Loudoun County Republican Committee on January 26th of this year. Many have no doubt seen the video over on NTH

"I am Candace Strother and I am running for Chairman of the Loudoun County Republican Committee.
As 2010 begins there is a battle going on for the soul of America. I am running because at this critical juncture for our County, our Commonwealth and our Nation, what is at stake is our very liberty. It is therefore imperative that we keep the winning momentum going. From Virginia, to New Jersey to Massachusetts, we the people, have spoken and made it clear that out of control spending and mounting debt has to stop.
To continue this winning model we have work to do. This year we have our 10th District Congressional race. In 2011, we will have a host of local races including the Board of Supervisors, Constitutional Officers and Delegates.

To win these races we must:

First: be unified and committed to electing principled common sense conservatives.

Second: reach out to like minded people and groups and grow our party. I am alarmed and concerned as many of you are about the assault on our Constitution. From tea party patriots to soccer moms, many in Loudoun are voicing their concerns but are new to the political process. We need to embrace this new energy, welcome them and get them involved.

Third: aggressively raise the money that is needed to help support good candidates, and fourth: we must build upon the winning grassroots organization that Glen and the current team has built.

What we do here in Loudoun and the candidates we elect matters beyond our county boundaries. We are the fourth fastest growing county in the nation; we are the wealthiest county in the nation. We are one of three critical counties that delivered NOVA for our candidates last fall. Our committee should match the strength and import of the county in which we reside.
So the question before us is, who will set the vision for the next two years for the LCRC? Who will unify the party and motivate everyone to move as one? Who will manage the process and procedures of party business in a fair and open manner? Who will provide the leadership necessary to implement winning grassroots strategies to get good conservative candidates elected?

From the time I worked for President Ronald Reagan and served in leadership roles in his administration both at the White House, and as Deputy Assistant Secretary managing a large federal agency, to my work promoting conservative ideas at the Heritage Foundation, to national campaigns or in the trenches locally to elect Republican candidates, I have been a solid and consistent conservative.

I have lived in Loudoun for four years. I have been a grassroots activist and worked shoulder to shoulder with many of you. Knocking doors, making phone calls, manning precincts, fundraising, organizing and emceeing events. Doing the hard work of freedom.

It would therefore be a distinct and humbling honor to serve as your Chairman.
If you choose me to be your Chairman,
I promise that we will work as hard as the stakes merit,
But we will have fun at it!
We will defeat Democrats!
We will stand our ground for freedom!
And we WILL elect candidates who will give us our country back!

I therefore with the utmost sincerity ask for your support and your vote on March 6."--Candace Strother, Jan.26, 2010

Wolf Birthday/Campaign Kickoff postponed due to snow.

The massive snowfall forecast for Friday evening has postponed the Frank Wolf Birthday party. Even the Air Traffic Controllers are worried about this one.

Because of the impending snowstorm, Congressman Wolf's Kickoff and Birthday Party Celebration scheduled for Friday night has been postponed. The new new date is February 19. Same time and same location.

Check the Wolf for Congress Web site for more details.

Obama's illegal alien Aunt

February 04, 2010 12:16 PM EST
BOSTON (AP) — A hearing on an asylum request by President Barack Obama's African aunt has started in Boston.

Kenya native Zeituni Onyango (zay-TUH'-nee awn-YAHN'-goh) is arguing Thursday in U.S. Immigration Court that she be allowed to stay in the United States.

Onyango showed up for the hearing in a wheelchair and with a cane across her lap. Lawyer Margaret Wong says Onyango and two doctors are expected to testify. The hearing is closed to the public.

Wong says she is applying for asylum for medical and "other" reasons.

Onyango moved to the United States in 2000. Her first asylum request was rejected, and she was ordered deported in 2004. But she didn't leave the country and continued to live in public housing in Boston.
Obama says he didn't know his aunt was living in the country illegally and immigration law should be followed.

Since it's out there....

Conservative Awards Dinner
Spike and I with Steve Hunt, Monique and friends at the Conservative Awards Dinner in Herndon last year

With the news surfacing ( I would have timed it differently, for reasons I will not disclose here) of Michael Williams intent to run for the 33rd District of the State Senate currently occupied by democrats, I'll disclose that a small number of County activists (who I will not name unless they contact me to say it's okay) and I first met with "Spike" back on Veteran's Day, 2009. That evening fostered a discussion on how best to introduce him to the voters out here. We also began to introduce him to the issues before Loudoun, many of which he was already aware of.

Michael is a solid conservative, and has a fantastic grasp of the issues that are important to the voters today, and into 2011. Economic stability brought about by solid job creation, support for small businesses that create those jobs, concerns over energy costs and the negative impact that they can have on struggling families, as well as a Federal Government that doesn't understand Constitutional limits on a number of issues.(For informational purposes, here's the Senate vote on the Health Care Freedom Act:
YEAS--Blevins, Colgan, Hanger, Houck, Hurt, Martin, McDougle, McWaters, Miller, J.C., Newman, Norment, Obenshain, Puckett, Quayle, Reynolds, Ruff, Smith, Stosch, Stuart, Vogel, Wagner, Wampler, Watkins--23.

NAYS--Barker, Deeds, Edwards, Herring, Howell, Locke, Lucas, Marsden, Marsh, McEachin, Miller, Y.B., Northam, Petersen, Puller, Saslaw, Ticer, Whipple--17.)

In upcoming votes:
The Virginia Firearms Freedom Act is about much more than firearms. This bill will redefine the proper constitutional use of the commerce clause by the federal government. Wait and watch as the sitting Senator of the 33rd votes with the liberals against this measure when it comes to the Senate. It will probably make it to the House for a vote on or around Feb 4, 2010. The Senate vote comes after the House vote. I suppose now is a great point to interject that Spike is a member of the NRA, and is a proud gun owner.

If you need a very good reason to send the current Senator from the 33rd looking for employment, witness the partisan divide above and see where the Senator of the 33rd is most likely to align his vote on this issue.

Then give Michael "Spike" Williams the nod to end that kind of nonsense in the Commonwealth.
